[Record & Demo Production Services]
What is Record and Demo Production?
The purpose of producing a record or demo is to bring to life the music of a composer, songwriter, band, artist, arranger or orchestrator. The whole process is supervised by a music producer who simultaneously serves as a project manager. Whether the production involves a demo or a record, the quality should be of high standard. However, a demo will not have all the sonic detail and characteristics of a hit record, but it is not meant to. The reason for this is budget. Demos are usually produced to sell a song, a composition or an artist to a publisher or a record label, or simply made for personal pleasure. Since a demo will not be commercially available to the public, it is produced in a project studio to limit the production cost. A radio ready record is recorded and mixed in a commercial studio with top-of-the-line equipment and sound. Furthermore, when the mixing of a record is complete, it is then sent to a world-class mastering studio for further enhancements such as equalization, compression, etc. Deciding whether you want your music to be produced as a demo or record is a matter of sonic detail and budget. Whichever you choose, you certainly need the service and help of a music producer.
Choosing a Music Producer
Although you may have to pay a music producer to work with you, this could eventually save you money when producing your record or demo. You will almost certainly get a much better recording and mixing, and in less time than if you attempt to do the whole process by yourself. An accomplished music producer should have:
-
- A great enthusiasm and love for music as both an art and entertainment, and endless pleasure for the process of music making
- A higher level of skill in musical performance; experience as a performer in live shows and recording sessions is a valuable asset
- Knowledge and/or skill in how music is composed, arranged and orchestrated; a competent music producer knows the intricacies of the creative side of the music genre he/she will produce, and thus able to suggest important modifications in the music
- Knowledge and skill in sound production and mixing; the role of the music producer may include setting up and operating audio equipment, and assisting and guiding the audio engineer
- Managerial, legal and organizational skills, including, contracting session players, selecting the studio and engineer, booking studio time, supervising the recording budget, and experience in contracts and copyrights
